Islam is a beautiful religion that gives a perfect guide to a way of life for all humans. One of the beauties of Islam that many of us may take for granted is the fact that we have a dua for everything. Whenever a Muslim sets out on a journey, we are encouraged to say some duas for our protection and safe return. This is the dua that the Messenger of Allah(ï·º) used to make whenever he traveled.
The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said; Three supplications will not be rejected (by Allah (SWT)), the supplication of the parent for his child, the supplication of the one who is fasting, and the supplication of the traveler.
“Allah is the Greatest. Allah is the Greatest. Allah is the Greatest. Glory is to Him Who has provided this for us though we could never have had it by our efforts. Surely, unto our Lord, we are returning. O Allah, we ask You on this our journey for goodness and piety, and for works that are pleasing to You. O Allah, lighten this journey for us and make its distance easy for us. O Allah, You are our Companion on the road and the One in Whose care we leave our family. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from this journey’s hardships, and from the wicked sights in store and from finding our family and property in misfortune upon returning.”
“subhana allathee sakhkhara lana hatha wama kunna lahu muqrineena (14) Wainna ila rabbina lamunqaliboon”
Translation
Glory unto Him Who created this transportation, for us, though we were unable to create it on our own. And unto our Lord, we shall return.
How do you pray when traveling?
O God, our heavenly Father, whose glory fills the whole creation, and whose presence we find wherever we go: Preserve those who travel; surround them with your loving care; protect them from every danger; and bring them in safety to their journey's end; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.”
‘’Rabbi Adkhilnee Mudkhala S’idqiw Wa Akhrijnee Mukhraja S’diqiw Waj-a’l Lee Mil Ladunkaa Sult’aanan Nas’eeraa’’
Translation
And say, "My Lord, cause me to enter a sound entrance and to exit a sound exit and grant me from Yourself a supporting authority."
How many Rakats are needed for Travellers?
Maghrib — The dusk prayer: 3 Rakat fard + 2 Rakat Sunnat (followed by optional 2 Rakat nufl) Isha — The night prayer: 4 Rakat fard + 2 Rakat Sunnat then 3 Rakat witr (Optional: 4 Rakat Sunnat prior to the 4 Rakat fard. 2 Rakat nafl before and after the witr)
